What is DDNS?
DDNS is a service that maps Internet domain names to IP addresses. DDNS
serves a similar purpose to DNS: DDNS allows anyone hosting a Web or FTP
server to advertise a public name to prospective users.

Unlike DNS that only works with static IP addresses, DDNS works with dynamic
IP addresses, such as those assigned by an ISP or other DHCP server. DDNS is
popular with home networks, who typically receive dynamic,
frequently-changing IP addresses from their service provider. To use DDNS,
one simply signs up with a provider and installs network software on their
host to monitor its IP address. [TOP]

I just registered and I still can't connect?
The DVR sends IP updates every 30 minutes to this server. You can either
wait until the DVR sends the next update or reboot your DVR to send an
immediate update to the server. You can also manually assign the IP to your
DVR as well through the user manager within this site. [TOP]

My DVR was connected, now it's not?
This typically occurs when:

1) The DVR has lost its connection to this website and was not able to
update this site with its current IP (either due to network equipment
failure, misconfigured or changed DVR settings, or a host of other causes)

2) Some DSL Internet service providers provide a dynamic IP that changes
more frequently than every 30 minutes. Thus, this will cause a hit-and-miss
on updating with the correct IP (maybe it'll be connected for 5 minutes
after submission and then be disconnected 5 minutes later after the IP has
changed yet again). In this case, we recommend either contacting your ISP's
technical department or switching to static IP service. At our discretion,
we may also provide a 10 minute update for your DVR if all else fails. [TOP]

How many GenIV DVRs can I register?
There is no limit. [TOP]

Can I use your service with any other brand of DVR?
Sorry, this service is only for GenIV Technology products. [TOP]

Why can't I login?
Make sure you are entering your password and username exactly as you have
registered. Your password will be emailed to you, if you have forgotten.

Can I use your service behind a cable/DSL router?

Yes. You'll have to set up port forwarding on your router for your DVR's TCP
port; see your router's documentation for instructions on port forwarding.

Does my camera's video stream through your server?
No. This service is used solely to track your changing IP and redirect you
to that appropriate IP via your registered DNS name (ex. johndoe.g4ip.com)

I want to manually enter my IP, but how can I determine my IP address if I'm
behind a router or firewall?

You can visit a variety of websites that host a tool for such purposes.
